Wedding Flowers in Gold Country. What to Expect When You Get Married in the Sierra Nevada Foothills

Getting married in Gold Country is a specific kind of beautiful. The venues here are historic buildings in downtown Nevada City, barn properties tucked into the foothills, outdoor ceremonies with ponderosa pines as your backdrop, and have a character that generic wedding florals simply can't match. If you're planning a wedding in Grass Valley, Nevada City, or anywhere in Nevada County, your flowers should feel like they belong here.

At Golden Flowers, we design wedding florals exclusively for couples celebrating in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Here's what the process looks like, what's in season when, and why Gold Country weddings deserve a local florist who knows the landscape.

Why Gold Country weddings are different

The foothills have a look and feel that's distinctly Californian but not coastal — warm tones, natural textures, a certain wildness that softened garden-style florals complement beautifully. Dahlias, ranunculus, peonies, sweet peas, and locally foraged greenery all grow here or nearby, and when you use what's in season regionally, the flowers feel like part of the place rather than shipped-in decorations.

We've designed wedding florals at some of Nevada City's most iconic venues — The Miner's Foundry, the National Exchange Hotel, and private properties throughout Nevada County. Every one of those spaces has its own personality, and we design around it.

What's in season for Gold Country weddings

Spring (March — May) Ranunculus, sweet peas, anemones, tulips, and early peonies. Spring in the foothills is one of the most abundant seasons for locally grown flowers — soft colors, delicate textures, and an effortless romantic quality that photographs beautifully.

Early Summer (June — July) Peak peony season, garden roses, foxglove, and lisianthus. June and July weddings in Gold Country are stunning — warm evenings, long light, and flowers at their most lush.

Late Summer (August — September) Dahlia season. If you're getting married in late summer, dahlias should be in your arrangements. Cafe au lait, dinner plate, pompom — we grow and source varieties that don't show up in standard floral catalogs. Late summer Gold Country weddings built around dahlias are something else entirely.

Fall (October — November) Dried grasses, late dahlias, marigolds, chrysanthemums, and rich foliage. Fall in the Sierra Nevada foothills has a warmth and depth to it — amber, burgundy, terracotta — that makes for some of the most visually striking wedding florals of the year.

What a wedding consultation looks like

We start with a conversation about the venue, the vibe, the colors, the budget. We don't push a package. We figure out what actually makes sense for your day and build from there. If you have a Pinterest board, bring it. If you have no idea what you want but you know how you want it to feel, that works too.

We're foam-free and source from California growers we trust, which means your wedding flowers are as sustainable as they are beautiful. We also work with couples who want to incorporate personal elements, from family heirloom vessels, foraged greenery from the property, handmade details — because weddings in Gold Country tend to attract people who care about those things.
