Farm to Doorstep. How Golden Flowers Grows and Delivers Fresh Flowers in Grass Valley

Most flower delivery services can't tell you where the flowers came from. Golden Flowers can tell you exactly — because some of them were growing on Highway 174 in Grass Valley last week.

We grow dahlias, celosia, and amaranth on our own farm just outside Grass Valley, and when those flowers are in season, they go directly from the field into arrangements delivered throughout Grass Valley, Nevada City, Penn Valley, and the Gold Country foothills. No cold storage chain, no overseas shipping, no weeks in transit. Field to vase in days.

What we grow on the farm

Dahlias Dahlias are the crown jewel of the Grass Valley farm and one of the most spectacular flowers you can grow in the Sierra Nevada foothills climate. We grow multiple varieties, from dinner plate dahlias with blooms the size of a dinner plate to café au lait dahlias in that impossible warm blush tone that photographs like a dream. Dahlia season runs late summer through fall, and during that window the farm is producing some of the most beautiful flowers available anywhere in Northern California.

When you order a Grass Valley delivery during dahlia season, there's a real chance your arrangement was built around flowers cut that morning on Highway 174.

Celosia Celosia is one of those flowers that stops people in their tracks, the velvety crested blooms in deep magenta, coral, and gold have a texture unlike anything else in an arrangement. We grow celosia through late summer and fall, and it adds a wild, almost otherworldly quality to designer's choice arrangements. It's also one of the best flowers for dried arrangements, holding its color beautifully long after cutting.

Amaranth Cascading amaranth adds movement and drama to arrangements in a way that most flowers can't. The long trailing burgundy and green tassels bring a loose, garden-grown quality that fits perfectly with the Gold Country aesthetic. Grown on the Highway 174 farm through summer and fall, amaranth is one of those ingredients that makes an arrangement look like it was gathered from a beautiful garden rather than assembled from a catalog.

Why farm-grown flowers make better arrangements

The difference between a farm-grown dahlia and an imported one isn't subtle. Farm-grown flowers are cut at the right stage of bloom, not weeks early to survive shipping. They haven't been treated with preservatives to extend shelf life across an international supply chain. They arrive in your arrangement with more vitality, more fragrance, and more time left in the vase.

Growing our own flowers also means we have creative control over what goes into arrangements that most florists don't. Varieties that aren't commercially available, colors that aren't in standard wholesale catalogs, stems cut at exactly the right moment, that's what farm-to-vase means in practice.
